The heart of FionaCakes
My Story
For many years, my career was in product development at Gap. I loved the creative process—taking an idea, paying attention to every detail, focusing on quality control, and seeing something come to life.
Outside of work, though, there was another kind of creating that brought me a different kind of joy: making cakes and baking.
It started simply as a hobby. I loved experimenting with flavors, colors, textures, and designs, and creating cakes for family and friends. There was always something special about stepping back after finishing a cake and seeing the idea I had imagined become something beautiful—and even more special seeing the happiness it brought to the person receiving it.
In late April, I left my job at Gap. It was an unexpected change after spending so much of my career in the fashion industry, but it also gave me the chance to think about what I wanted to do next.
I kept coming back to cake and baking.
What had started as a hobby had become something I genuinely loved. I realized that many of the things I enjoyed about product development—creativity, craftsmanship, attention to detail, quality, and making something thoughtfully for other people—were also the things I loved most about baking.
So I decided to take a chance, follow that passion, and make more cakes and baked goods for more people to enjoy.
My Cakes
My specialty is Asian-style sponge cake—soft, light, fluffy, and less sweet than many traditional American cakes. I love creating cakes that are flavorful without being overly sweet, so you can enjoy every bite without feeling overwhelmed by sugar.
Quality is very important to me. I carefully choose high-quality ingredients, many of which I purchase from Costco, including fresh dairy, eggs, fruit, and other ingredients I trust for my own family. I believe that using good ingredients makes a real difference in both the taste and quality of a cake.
My goal is to create cakes that are not only delicious, but also fresh, light, beautiful, and made with care. I pay close attention to every detail—from the texture of the sponge and the balance of sweetness to the colors, decorations, and final presentation.
I also love making customized cakes for birthdays, celebrations, and special occasions. Whether you have a favorite theme, color palette, character, style, or special idea in mind, I’m happy to work with you to create a cake that feels personal and unique.
For me, every cake is more than just a dessert. It is something made to bring happiness, celebrate a special moment, and create a beautiful memory for you and the people you love.
